The King's College London e-Research team is hosting a two-day, hands-on Software Carpentry workshop. Carpentries workshops teach computational skills that help researchers work more efficiently, using lessons and datasets that allow researchers to quickly apply what they have learned to their own work.
This workshop is focused on programming in Python. The curriculum will include:
- Introduction to the command line
- Programming in Python
- Version control with Git
The target audience is learners who have little to no prior computational experience, and the instructors will put a priority on creating a friendly environment to empower researchers and enable data-driven discovery. Even those with some experience will benefit, as the goal is to teach not only how to do analyses, but how to manage the process to make it as automated and reproducible as possible. For instance, after attending this workshop you will be able to:
- read tabular data into Python and produce data visualisations
- create your own functions to automate analysis over multiple datasets
- use version control to track your work and collaborate with others
For this workshop you will need a laptop on which you can install software - installation instructions will be provided. Space is limited and the workshop will likely fill up quickly.
For more information see the Software Carpentry site.
Note: This registration page is for non-KCL attendees only. King's College London staff and students should register via Skillsforge.
