Working through Theatre Translation: Practice and Strategies With Out of the Wings
Sat 20 Jul 2024 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
The Common Room, Omnibus Theatre, 1 Clapham Common Northside London, SW4 0QW
Description
As we approach the close of the Out of the Wings (OOTW) Festival for another year, we invite you to join members of the OOTW collective for an open, practical workshop exploring translation for the stage. We will share extracts of work, discuss strategies and techniques, and share experiences.
Whether you are an early-career translator interested in having a taste of theatre translation for the first time, or a more experienced practitioner with work you’d like to test out, all are welcome to attend this session at Omnibus Theatre, the home of the OOTW Festival play readings since 2019.
We invite translators with works in progress to bring extracts from your translations to hear them aloud or seek peer support with unravelling knotty challenges. First-time translators will be invited to experiment with translating for performance. All are welcome to bring questions about theatre translation, whatever they may be.
The workshop will be facilitated by members of the OOTW Collective, who have been working together to produce the OOTW Festival and OOTW’s activities since 2015. We are active throughout the year, platforming international playwrights and the translators who translate them through monthly meetings, performances, workshops, research, and publishing.
The workshop is open to speakers of all and any languages. Participation is free, but please register in advance.
