Join Artist Ruth Parkinson-Johns for a relaxing few hours creating delicate stitched bowls using free-motion Embroidery.
After an initial introduction to Free-motion Embroidery you will have the opportunity to stitch random lines, patterns or shapes onto a dissolvable backing which in turn will be washed away leaving behind delicate lace like stitches which can be formed into a bowl. Depending on how quickly you work, you may have the opportunity to explore the technique further by trapping threads, fabric and fleece into your stitches for a second creation.
Pease bring £15 cash for materials payable to the tutor on the day, a basic sewing kit to include a small pair of scissors and a few sewing machine threads in your favourite Colours . An embroidery hoop and your sewing Machine which has the facility to lower the feed dog teeth and a Darning/Embroidery foot.
Windows in all rooms will be opened to improve circulation so you may want to bring an extra layer of clothing such as a light jumper or cardigan.
Ruth mainly works from her Garden Studio, creating one off Textile pieces with Dyed, Painted or Printed cloth, often embellished further with Free-motion or Hand Embroidery. These might include stitched bowls, journal covers, lanterns or lampshades and Framed pieces. Inspiration is drawn from the Landscape, Wild Flowers and the Ocean and the ever changing weather.
Ruth has gained a BA (hons) Degree in Textiles and a PGCE in Art and Design currently teaching both Recreational and Accredited City and Guilds Courses. A member of the Society For Embroidered Work.
