What will you learn?
Discover the peace of crafting simply for the joy of it and learn to look at your scraps differently with Anna on this introductory scrapcrafting course. You’ll enjoy an inspirational collection of remnant materials - textiles, papers, haberdashery, fibres, lace... reclaimed, vintage, luxe, surprising... always beautiful and always interesting.
Craft or art experience is not needed but very welcome. Whether you've never put thread to needle, or are a skilled crafter already, this is a no-rules creativity that focuses more on process and experience than results. Take time for yourself, get lost rummaging in a basket of gorgeous scraps, let go of expectations and embrace the opportunity to play with colours & textures.
While products are secondary to the making here, nobody goes home empty handed. The course will shape around participants and include mini projects such as textile feather making, 'scrapstack' tiny artworks & embellishments, snippet patches, layered textile art, handstitched experiments, mark-making and collage.
When?
Wednesday's 15, 22, 29 September & 6, 13, 20 October 2021 - 10:00am - 12:30pm
Who is your tutor?
Anna Marshall is a long term multi-discipline crafter and hosts her Peace&Craft workshops around the Cotswolds and online. Growing up in a family of lots of different handcrafters and inheriting a pre-disposition for using what you have, Anna has tried most crafts, enjoyed the majority, favoured & practiced several and collected skills, techniques & inspirations along the way to create her own blended style of stitching, snipping, sticking and sketching.
After an eclectic career path, Anna is now a parent of primary age twins and works out of her home studio in South Gloucestershire on various creative endeavours, including selling her own handmade products and running regular creative sessions for a charity supporting new mothers facing post-natal challenges as well as her own scrapcrafting workshops.
Anna works alongside participants for a relaxed, inspirationally creative environment. Her simple & satisfying crafting sessions are accessible for all abilities and often offer demonstrations, techniques & examples rather than step by step projects. Anna will always encourage recycling, reclamation, 'make do and mend' and using every scrap, alongside helping her students find peace & self-care through a focus on the process over results.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring £3 - £5 per session for any materials used (payable to the instructor on the day).
Participants are welcome/encouraged to bring their own sharp fabric/thread scissors if they have a favourite pair.
There will be optional opportunities to bring and include personally meaningful scraps and memories along the way. Nothing needed for the first session, where Anna will discuss this more with the group.
