Killer Conversations: Andrew James Greig

KLEO (Kinross-shire Local Events Organisation) and Loch Leven Community Library are delighted that author Andrew James Greig is coming to Kinross as part of the of the Killer Conversations during the Kinross-shire Winter Festival.

Andrew James Greig will talk about his unique route to becoming an author. He started late, in his 60’s and after a lifetime working as a design engineer in aerospace alternating with providing live sound for bands and festivals worldwide. He supplied the audiovisual equipment for early Bloody Scotland events, pinning a lapel mic to William McIlvanney in 2014 before he’d even thought about becoming a writer then his first book Whirligig (now The Bone Clock) was shortlisted for the McIlvanney Prize in 2020.

Since then he has had 8 books published with a contract to write another 5. Two books have been listed for the McIlvanney Prize and one for the CWA New Blood writer’s award. His next one The Drowning Glen, is already achieving good pre-sales prior to publication this November.

Andrew James Greig will discuss how his settings are influenced by his decision to hitch to Fort William from his Welsh home at 18 to work for the forestry, to how life experiences such as being held ransom at gunpoint in Brazil stimulate the creative process.

He hopes that he can provide the inspiration for other people to start writing. Who knows where it will take you?
