🏆 Award-Winning Performance | Beyond Border(lands) Award - 2026 Tucson Fringe Festival
"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This one-woman show was profoundly moving and very, very impressive. The cinematography added such depth." - Tucson Fringe Festival Audience Review
{Eureka, CA} - Award-winning performance OMI TUTU: Cool Waters arrives in Eureka for one night only, presenting an immersive evening of multi-media dance & film. Created by Dance Artist & Cultural Ethnologist, Kimberly Miguel Mullen, M.A., in collaboration with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Craig Renaud, this special engagement includes an opening set by Samba do Mar Humboldt celebrating the rhythm and spirit of Brazilian Samba.
The full program runs approximately 50-minutes, combining both the opening set and OMI TUTU: Cool Waters into a continuous immersive experience, offering audiences a unique and immersive experience into the realms of salt & fresh waters.
Rooted in over 30-years of research in AfroCaribbean & AfroBrazilian sacred dance practices, the work pays homage to the "las dos aguas" or "the two waters:" Yemaya, the Oricha of the sea & the divine universal mother & Ochun, the deity of the sweet, fresh waters of love & beauty.
Set against Craig Renaud's immersive cinematography; OMI TUTU creates a living altar where film, sound, and movement converge, revealing the deep interconnectedness between water, nature, and the living body.
The performance also features rare original field recordings from Kimberly Miguel Mullen’s ethnographic work in Eastern Cuba's, Santiago de Cuba with the acclaimed musicians of Ballet Folklorico Cutumba.
OMI TUTU is co-hosted by Samba do Mar Humboldt and is presented as part of an annual AfroBrazilian Dance Workshop Residency (April 23 + April 25) with Visiting Guest Artist, Kimberly Miguel Mullen in Arcata since 2011.
