As the year draws to a close, join Korean Film Club for a special screening of Past Lives (2023), the acclaimed romantic drama from Korean-Canadian filmmaker Celine Song.

Spanning multiple decades and continents, Past Lives follows Nora and Hae Sung, two childhood friends whose lives take different paths after Nora's family emigrates from South Korea. Tender, thoughtful, and quietly moving, Past Lives explores love, friendship, fate, migration, and what it means to belong to more than one place. It's a film that invites us to reflect on the people who shape us, the connections we carry across time and distance, and the many ways a life can unfold.

This screening marks our first Korean diaspora film — an important step in our journey to celebrate the many stories, experiences, and perspectives that make up Korean cinema and its wider community. It's also our final event of the year, and we'd love to spend it with you. Whether you've joined us at a previous screening or are discovering Korean Film Club for the first time, we'd be delighted to have you there.

The pre-screening lecture will be presented by Dr. Sol Morrissey, whose "current research explores Korean diasporic identity, media and popular culture."
