This class will take a brief but scholarly look at the evidence for Lugus in Gaul and Iberia, before moving on to a comparative study of Irish and Welsh texts and folklore concerning Lugh, Lleu and others.
I believe people are sometimes too quick to look outside of Celtic mythology and archaeology for answers about Lugh, Lleu, and Lugus before they've really studied the Celtic evidence. Likewise, they often try to categorise one or all of these deities as a god of lightning, a simple battle hero, sun god, or paragon of virtue, without knowing all the details of his story. In this series, I will encourage you to sift and compare the evidence and allow it to guide you toward a deeper understanding. I hope you will gain a more nuanced and well-rounded picture of Lugus in all his forms.
What to expect from this class:

- Important points and graphics from the presentations
- links or citations to any texts referenced in the presentations
- links and citations to further reading on the topics covered, which you can follow up on, if you wish.
Homework: You need to read the Four Branches of the Mabinogi to prepare for this class. (see guidance below)
