In Shapeshifters and Magical Animals we will explore stories and poems from Britain and Ireland concerning the themes of transformation, wisdom, immortality, and time. We will be looking at stories and word-images which have fascinated me for years.

I love teaching this class! As a teacher, I believe my job is to share material from reliable sources with you, and to offer my insights and possible interpretations. I hope this will open new paths for you to explore.

  • Material will be drawn from folklore, myth, early bardic poetry, and relevant modern writers.
  • There won't be any reading assignments, but you will be asked to watch a short video each week to prepare for the class.
  • There will be some storytelling in class, and we will look at a few poems together, too.
  • This class is suitable for students who are new to Celtic material, but will add richness and insight for those who are not.
  • Help will be provided with pronunciation of unfamiliar words and names.
  • The classes will include time for questions and moderated discussion.
