The Celtic otherworld (or otherworlds) is a mysterious and sometimes controversial topic. This four week course will explore how such places are described in the mythology and folklore or Britain and Ireland. We'll be visiting Tech Duinn - land of the dead, the mysterious Annwfn, Manannán's sacred isle and many other worlds beyond the earthly plane.

Topics include:

• Sidhe mounds
• Magical wells and fountains
• Island otherworlds
• Worlds under the sea
• Annwfn and its kings
• Abductions and elopements

What to expect from this class
Weekly online class on Zoom includes: my presentations, Q&A sessions, moderated discussions. Classes usually last around 90 minutes.

Homework: There's no required reading for this class.
 

Access to class recording (Recordings may not always include class discussions, but will always include all presentations.) I strongly encourage you to attend the Zoom sessions if you possibly can, but there's no need to apologise if you're unable to do so.

Weekly notes. You will receive these as a PDF after each class. They will include:
A summary of the week's presentation, including quotations, references, maps and graphics, plus suggestions for further independent study - including online links wherever possible.
