The Cath Maige Tuired (The 2nd Battle of Moytura) is a classic and central part of the Irish mythological cycle. The stories within it run the gamut from heroism and romance to comedy and tragedy. It includes stories you may know, or have heard of, such as the Mórrígan's meeting with the Dagda at the River Unshin, Lugh's conversation at the gates of Tara, and Nuada's silver arm, and many more.

Cath Maige Tuired is useful for introducing members of the Tuatha Dé Danann in clear characterisations, and tells a good story in the process. The text is not particularly long or difficult, and we will be able to explore it at a relaxed pace.

What to expect from this class:
Weekly online class includes – my presentations, Q&A sessions, moderated discussions. Classes usually last around 90 minutes.

Access to class recording (Recordings may not always include class discussions, but will always include all presentations.) I strongly encourage you to attend the Zoom sessions if you possibly can, but there's no need to apologise if you're unable to do so.

Weekly notes. You will receive these as a PDF after each class. They will include:
A summary of the week's presentation, including quotations, references, maps and graphics, plus suggestions for further independent study - including online links wherever possible.

Homework: There is weekly reading for this class using Morgan Daimler’s translation of the Cath Maige Tuired as a textbook. This is an inexpensive book. (See below for links to help you find it on Amazon.) Just a note to anyone signing up at the last minute - you don't really need the book at the first session, so you should have time to get a copy.

Study Guide: Sent soon after registration, this includes the reading schedule for the class.

Important! You should receive an email from me within 48 hours of paying for the class. Please respond to that email if requested. If you don't see it, check your spam folders, etc. and if you can't find it, contact me by clicking "contact organiser", below! It's important that we are in email contact, so that you can receive the zoom link and class mailings.
