Fashion is a multi-billion dollar industry, and a major climate polluter.
Amazon’s founder, Jeff Bezos, is expected to reach a trillion dollars in personal wealth in this decade. Same goes to Bernard Arnault from LVMH, the parent company of everyone who is anyone in luxury fashion (think Luois Vuitton, think Dior, think champagne and obscene wealth).
And let’s not forget Zara’s Armancio Ortega (Net worth: $120.1 billion), H&M’s Carl Stefan Erling Persson ($17 billion) and Shein founder Chris Xu (estimated $9.1 billion).
Meanwhile, the people who make our clothes are paid poverty wages and face repression and violence when they organise to fight for their rights.
The numbers don’t lie. As aggressive corporate monopolies help their owners amass extreme wealth, the rest of us are left with next to nothing.
And those at the end of the supply chain, like garment workers across the world, are paying the price for obscene profits.
Our special guest, Tharo Khun from Cambodia will share his insights on the lessons and challenges from organising to support human rights and independent trade unions in Cambodia.
We marched to Make Them Pay, now join us to discuss what next in the fight to get billionaires out of fashion and build worker power!
