NOC World Ocean Day: Fish in a Kettle

Sun 7 Jun 2026 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Fabric Studios, L3 8HL

Created in collaboration with the National Oceanography Centre (www.noc.ac.uk) and inspired by the research of marine scientist Dr Marta Payo Payo, Fish in a Kettle is a new immersive performance by LabRats Collective.

Fish in a Kettle is an immersive performance set inside a house party in the year 2050, hosted by the Ocean themselves. Audiences are brought there by an Oracle, Ringo, who is trying to change the future.

As audiences move through the space, they encounter different possible futures through fragments of the Ocean’s life: Coral, the eternal Mother; Penelope, a fading and unstable beauty; and Sal, a party-loving club kid dancing at the end of the world.

Across kitchens, bathrooms and hidden spaces, audiences encounter ritual, grief, memory, music and ecological horror as the party slowly mutates into something stranger and more unstable.

For one day only, in celebration of World Ocean Day 2026, the party returns to Liverpool, followed by a Q&A with the theatre makers and Dr Marta Payo Payo.

This is an immersive performance: audiences move freely through the space, choosing where to go, who to follow and what stories to uncover. You can get close to the action or hang back and observe. No two journeys through the party are the same.
