Keynote Speaker: Sam Smith - still the only female CEO of a leading City broking firm,

Topic: How to win against the odds

One year after launch, Sam found herself in the middle of the financial crisis. She was a single mum, moving to new home and also starting her daughter at school for the first time. “I remember thinking: "What have I done?"' Everything was against her. She could easily have given up. Instead, Sam Smith dug in and made such a success of her new business that today she is the youngest and only female CEO of a City broking firm. Her company, FinnCap is now one of the leading and fastest-growing independent brokers in the City.

How did Sam Smith navigate this challenging period to expand her firm into one of the fastest-growing, leading independent brokers in the City? Join us to listen to the story of leadership, resilience and the road to success.

Sam started her career in 1998 joining the private client broker JM Finn, after qualifying as a chartered accountant with KPMG. In April 2010 she completed the purchase of the remaining shareholding from JM Finn. Under her leadership, as the youngest and still the only female chief executive of a City broker, FinnCap is now one of the leading and fastest-growing independent brokers in the City and ranked No1 Nominated Adviser and Broker to Alternative Investment Market companies.

Outside her duties as the CEO, Sam is actively involved in various mentoring projects and organizations such as  “Women of the Future” awards, of which Sam is a former winner. Sam is also a patron for the Modern Muse project, aimed at millions of young girls throughout the UK to encourage and inspire them to look at business careers and entrepreneurship as a way to achieve their dreams. Her awards include 2010 Business XL, 2009 Business XL, Power Top 50 – no 3 in the City, National Business Woman of the Future Award, Top 100, Financial Rising Stars Award. With others,

Topic: Time to kick some a**!

Imposter Syndrome is the biggest loss leader for women in all spheres of life. Listening to that inner voice that says ‘You’re not up to this, you’re not good enough, other people are better’ has resulted in losing many brilliant business leaders, politicians, women in positions of power all because of this niggling erosion of self-belief. You are not alone worrying about being "found out" by the No-Talent Police - so are Michelle Obama, Olivia Coleman, Ellie Golding and many others

It’s time to change! In this interactive workshop, Suparna Malhotra offers tried and tested techniques that have helped her, and used by, among others, the Head of Executive Coaching at Google and senior executives at Coca Cola, find their unique superpower and beat the imposter syndrome which exists in many of us. This workshop will enable you to identify your personal “blockers” and transform them, so that they no longer have power over you, able to set and maintain boundaries. Design your "Kick-A** Manifesto” – is a practical step by step action for how you would like your career to play out. Most of all, you will recognise and own your worth and be able to celebrate, knowing that you are enough.

Suparna is an executive coach & facilitator who grew up to witness great gender disparities. Her 15-year corporate experience spans two decades across three Continents, after which she established the Suparna Way to support female professionals achieve higher pay, equality and equity. She has spoken on International Women’s Day at the House of Lords, Ellevate, BEI Network, and has run workshops at internal women’s network events at the Fortune 100 companies she works with and is the creator & host of the London-based Rise with Confidence seminars, the last covering Imposter Syndrome topic held at Google's London offices.
