Have something on your bike you'd like to fix but have a million questions?

Pretty sure you know how to fix it but worried you might get in really deep and get stuck?

Need to get a date in the diary and stop putting doing the job off?

Want to hang out with a bunch of other women, drink tea, and learn and support one another?

Well this drop in session is for you!

How it works:

A space, work stands to borrow, tools to borrow, and Hannah, an experienced bike mechanic to support and encourage you- she'll help you find the right youtube video to follow, will demo something, or give you an encouraging nod to tell you that's the right tool, the right place and to just push a bit harder to get that damn thing loose!

Support and encourage each other, learn from others, leave feeling empowered and chuffed that you've saved yourself loads of money doing it yourself!

Please message ahead to make sure you ambition for the session is suitable, and that we have the appropriate specialist tools.

  • Identifying a problem and fixing it
  • Setting up your wheels tubeless (please message ahead and make sure we have the right pump with us!)
  • Something else- please message ahead and chat to Hannah to see if its possible!

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

This session is designed to be a supported session. You need to have an idea of what you want to do and how to do it and Hannah and the group will help fill in the gaps. This is ideal if you have been to other sessions in the summer maintenance sessions or you did our mechanics weekend, or you've got a vague idea but need the support to have the confidence to start the job. This session isn't for complete beginners- please see our other mechanics sessions if that's you.

To bring:

  • Your bike
  • Allen keys/multi tool (we will have a couple to borrow if needed)
  • Any other tools you have that you'd like to practice using
  • Parts you want to fit

Location:

This session will be held at the Cyclery 124- Kendal's new cycling hub! 124 Stricklandgate, Kendal LA9 4QG- https://maps.app.goo.gl/FLuQ7ZhsmzidPzWw5 Closest parking is the County hall carpark.

What's the cost

LGG has been successful in receiving funding from Cycling UK as part of their Big Bike Revival project. This means the cost of this workshop (but not chips!) is all covered.

We know that sometimes free events can mean there is less buy-in or commitment from people to attend- but we also know life gets in the way and things crop up. Please let us know ASAP if you are no-longer able to attend so we can re-allocate your ticket.

Who'll be hosting?

The brilliant Hannah Milton (she/her), local mechanic and experienced teacher is leading on our summer of Big Bike Revival mechanics sessions. Hannah is a font of knowledge and is a calm, caring teacher.- but remember there is only one of her and 4 of you- so expect to be supported, not getting your bike fixed for you!

You are welcome even if you haven't been on LGG ride before. We know many enjoy attending a workshop as a first step of confidence into the LGG community. Joining a event or ride can be scary and nerve-racking for many, we aim to create a friendly, sociable, welcoming environment for you, please join us. Do email lakesgravelgang@gmail.com if you have any questions or we can support you to join us in any way.

LGG events, rides and workshops are for all women, including trans women, and non binary folk who are comfortable in a space that centers the experience of women.

By participating in this Big Bike Revival funded project you give permission for LGG to share your name and email address with Cycling UK for monitoring and evaluation purposes. Cycling UK will send you an email after you attend the session for you to fill in a feedback questionnaire. Please send us an email if you require any more details about this.

Your cooperation with filling in this post session questionnaire supports us evidencing the good things we are doing with the funding and will hopefully mean we'll get more again in the future for more nice, free, things- thank you.
