Description
Lampo kicks off its fall season at Soccer Club Club with a performance by Jason Nazary.
Nazary has been working on a new series of solo compositions for drum set and synths. In Trust In Its Novel Repetition, he premieres various concise studies that are equal parts clatter and blurp, gradually revealing complexity through the exploration of simple ideas.
Jason Nazary (b.1984, Aviano, Italy) is a drummer and composer from Atlanta, based in Brooklyn. Fascinated by the intersection of acoustic and electronic music, he uses the drums as a trigger and control source for a collection of synthesizers and sequencers.
Over the course of four solo records, including two under the name So Ghost, and numerous other releases with a growing list of collaborators, Nazary draws as much from beat-driven electronic music as from free improvised music. Current projects include work with Saint Abdullah (brothers Mohammad and Mehdi Mehrabani-Yeganeh), Amirtha Kidambi's Elder Ones, and a trio with Camilo Ángeles and Henry Fraser. He has co-led Anteloper, an improvised modular beat-shredding duo with Jaimie Branch; Clebs, the dystopian electro-noise duo with singer Emilie Weibel; Bear In Heaven, a psychedelic synth-heavy indie rock band; and Little Women, a noise-meets-free-jazz soul quartet.
Presented by Lampo in partnership with Soccer Club Club
Lampo, established in 1997, supports artists working in new music, experimental sound, and other interdisciplinary practices. Rather than making programming decisions around tour schedules, Lampo invites selected artists to create and perform new work, and then the organization provides the space, resources, and curatorial support to help them fulfill their vision. www.lampo.org
The Lampo FW24 season runs from October through December, including programs from Jason Nazary, TAK Ensemble, Will Guthrie, Modney & Ingrid Laubrock, and Ka Baird — at Soccer Club Club, Corbett vs. Dempsey, and the Graham Foundation. Details here. All events are free and open to the public, thanks in part to support from the Lampo members.
