LancsCAN Lunch & Learn - Environmental Education
LancsCAN Lunch & Learn - Environmental Education
Need help?
Environmental education is essential in our fight against climate change because it gives people the tools they need—knowledge, skills, and a sense of purpose—to take action. When we raise awareness about the causes and effects of climate change, we empower individuals to make responsible choices in their daily lives and push for the kind of systemic change our planet desperately needs. It teaches us to think critically, to make informed decisions, and to recognize our shared responsibility in protecting the Earth. This is especially important for our young people, who will carry the torch of environmental stewardship into the future. Through education, we not only inspire innovation and sustainable practices, but we also give communities the strength to demand the policies that will safeguard our planet for generations to come. Together, we can create a more resilient, sustainable world.
Join us for our first online 'Lunch & learn' sessions for
the Lancashire Climate Action Network (LancsCAN) in 2025, where we'll explore different ways of engaging the next generation about climate change and climate action. Our speakers
are:
Alison Cross from Ernest Cook Trust, a UK educational charity working to nurture a lifelong journey of learning, appreciation and respect for the countryside through a range of Outdoor Learning experiences. Alison will talk about their grant giving programme, outdoor learning programmes, and collaborations with others, focussing onwork here in Lancashire.
Jon McLeod is Head of Admissions, Liaison and Marketing for The Blackpool Sixth Form College. He is also Co-chair of the Fylde Eco Schools Network and is the Schools and Youth Community Lead for LancsCAN. Jon was a driving force behind Lancashire's first ever Lancashire Youth Climate Conference. This LancsCAN event took place at The Blackpool Sixth Form College in October 2024, with 94 young people aged between 16 and 19 attending as delegates from 16 school sixth forms, colleges and youth groups across Lancashire. Jon will talk about this event, how we can build on this strong foundation and what we need to do for 2025.
As always there will be opportunities for Q&A, and for networking and sharing your news at the end of the presentations.
The aim of these events is to allow members to showcase what they’re doing, spread the word about upcoming opportunities, and support peer-to-peer learning. We also hope they will strengthen the network through interaction and help build the LancsCAN community.
