Join us for a special, extended Lunch & Learn event this September on 'Understanding Climate Science'. We'll be joined by two experts from Lancaster University who will talk about their work and how this has helped our understanding of climate science.

Dr Andrew Jarvis has over 20 years of experience as a climate scientist and is part of the Data Science Institute at Lancaster University. His most recent academic study, written with Professor Piers Forster at the University of Leeds, goes back in time to better understand the relationship between temperature and atmospheric carbon dioxide. Their findings have strengthened the evidence that human activity has influenced the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere leading to rises in global temperature. Andrew’s talk will take us on a whistle stop tour of climate science, specifically looking at how we measure global warming, and how we estimate the cost of carbon.

Ian Dodd is Professor of Sustainable Agriculture at the Lancaster Environment Centre, part of Lancaster University. He has over 30 years of experience and specialises in the relationship between plants and the soil in which they are growing. In his talk Ian will give an international perspective on the critical role that soils and agriculture play in both how we are impacted by climate change, and how sustainable agriculture can help countries become more resilient to our changing climate.

Please note this will be a 90 minute event, from 12noon until 1.30pm.

As always there will be opportunities for Q&A, and for networking and sharing your news at the end of the presentations.

The aim of these events is to allow members to showcase what they’re doing, spread the word about upcoming opportunities, and support peer-to-peer learning. We also hope they will strengthen the network through interaction and help build the LancsCAN community.
