LancsCAN Lunch & Learn - Education
This month’s Lunch and Learn theme is Education. Taking a broader approach to this theme, we will be hearing from speakers about their work to open up opportunities to a wider range of people.
Our first speakers will be Alison and Theo from The Ernest Cook Trust. The Trust's “Skills for Nature” programme offers the chance for people to bridge the gap from formal education, or current career, to employment within the outdoor sector. Through apprenticeships and trainee roles, the individual will gain skills, confidence and networking opportunities in the education, land based and outdoor sectors. They will also learn about career opportunities and how their job contributes to tackling the climate and nature crisis. Hear from an Outdoor Learning Trainee in Lancashire and an Apprentice based in Cumbria.
We'll also hear from Global Link, Lancaster. Formed in 1993 as a Development Education Centre, Global Link have used creative and participatory learning experiences to increase awareness of the global dimensions of our lives, encouraging action towards a fairer and more sustainable world. This includes topics such as conflict resolution, human rights, social justice, sustainability, global citizenship and interdependence, and diversity. Gisela Renolds, Executive Director, will speak about recent projects and the impact of their work with the young people, asylum seekers, volunteers and communities in Lancashire.
As always there will be opportunities for Q&A, and for networking and sharing your news at the end of the presentations. Please note, with three speakers, this event may run over the usual 60min timeframe.
The aim of these events is to allow members to showcase what they’re doing, spread the word about upcoming opportunities, and support peer-to-peer learning. We also hope they will strengthen the network through interaction and help build the LancsCAN community.
