Though there are several swifts native to North America only one can be spotted east of the Rocky Mountains - the chimney swift (Chaetura pelagica). In Philadelphia they can be spotted by the hundreds diving into our chimneys during the fall migration. If you can find the right chimney, this nightly descent is truly a wonder to behold. Join bird-enthusiast and nature guide Anisa George in learning more about this soot colored world traveler some people like to describe as a cigar with wings. We'll meet up for a bowl of veggie chilli at a Germantown community park, learn a bit about the bird, then take a ten minute walk to a primary roosting chimney at dusk to see the wondrous swoop of swifts.
