The Secret Math of Trees
Sat Feb 8, 2025 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
FDR Park, Pickle Ball Courts, Delaware Expy, Philadelphia, PA, 19145
Description
Have you ever looked up at a tree and wondered how tall it was, how old it was, or how much carbon it had sucked out of the atmosphere? Join LandHealth educator Anisa George and Emily Bell, graduate of the iTree Academy, to learn some old school and new school ways of calculating the hidden value of a tree. We'll be heading to the west side of FDR, where some very impressive trees are threatened by the city's plan for the park. Together we'll do some citizen science and try to elaborate on the value of some of the most impressive trees in our urban forest.
All ages welcome. Dress extra warm. Don't forget gloves. Wear shoes which you don't mind getting VERY muddy. For your own comfort consider bringing a water bottle. Also bring a fully charged cell phone if you have one.
The paths are not currently ADA accessible. They are unpaved and uneven.
