Lecture: "The Importance of St. Louis to Ulysses S. Grant"
Synopsis: Although Ulysses S. Grant lived in St. Louis for only six years of his life, he was associated with the city in one way or another for forty years of his life. St. Louis was a place Grant was proud to call home. In this presentation, participants will learn about Ulysses S. Grant's experiences as an area resident and farmer, his unfulfilled intention to eventually retire to his St. Louis farm (White Haven), and the National Park Service's ongoing work to interpret Grant's life at Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in St. Louis County. Special focus will be given to Grant's life and residences in downtown St. Louis, where he and his family lived from 1859 until the spring of 1860.
