Join Land of Iron and Cleveland Bat Group for an exciting evening all about bats!

Commonly associated with deep, dark caves, bats can also make use of abandoned mines and other artificial habitats. Working alongside Cleveland Bat Group, visitors will be introduced to a wealth of information about bats in the local area, the species that can be found here and how they can be identified.

The evening will begin at Land of Iron with a short presentation about these amazing animals. We will then head out into Skinningrove, walking through Doorstep Green and crossing the footbridge to the opposite side of the beck.

Along the way, we will use specialist bat-detection equipment to listen for and identify the different calls and signals made by bats.

Meeting point and route

Meet at the Land of Iron, Mill Lane, Skinningrove, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, TS13 4AP
The evening begins with a short presentation at the museum before the group heads out into the village. The walking route is fully accessible.

What to bring

Please bring a waterproof jacket and wear warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking. The ground may be wet, particularly if it has been raining.
Please leave dogs at home, as they can be disruptive to bats, which rely heavily on sound to navigate and find food.

Respecting the village and its wildlife

These events take place during the quieter hours of the evening. Visitors are asked to respect the peace and privacy of Skinningrove’s residents, as well as the animals living in and around the village.

Weather and cancellations

Bats are sensible creatures and do not like coming out in the rain. If the weather is poor, Land of Iron reserves the right to cancel the event and refund ticket holders.

Land of Iron’s programme of events and activities is made possible thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players.
