With 18 Latin GRAMMY Awards, two GRAMMY Awards, dozens of Platinum certifications, and over 20 million records sold worldwide, Carlos Vives has forever changed Latin music. With a musical career spanning 30 years and billions of streams and views, the Colombian singer, songwriter, actor, and philanthropist remains one of the world's most recognized stars, boasting a massive social following and over 15 million monthly listeners on Spotify. In 2023, as part of the celebration of his 30-year musical journey, he released the GRAMMY-nominated album "Escalona: Nunca Se Había Grabado Así," a journey into his roots and the success that made him an ambassador of Colombian sound worldwide. With this album, Vives received his 18th Latin GRAMMY in the "Best Cumbia/Vallenato Album" category and a nomination for the 2024 GRAMMY Awards for "Best Tropical Latin Album." Additionally, he joined forces for the first time in a historic collaboration with his colleague and friend Juanes to release "Las Mujeres," part of "Clásicos de la Provincia (Remastered & Expanded)," featuring new versions of classic vallenatos.
In 2023, Vives also celebrated his concert tour "El Tour de los 30" with over 20 SOLD OUT dates in Latin America and the United States, visiting countries such as Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Peru, New York, Miami (Florida), Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, culminating with a historic concert at El Campín Stadium in Bogotá, Colombia, in front of more than 40,000 people. Since the beginning of his career, he has masterfully blended the traditional sound of Colombian vallenato with influences from pop and rock. His numerous awards include 2 GRAMMY Awards, making him the firstLatin artist to win a GRAMMY, and 18 Latin GRAMMY Awards, the most recent in 2023. In 2020, he was inducted into the Latin Billboard Music Awards Hall of Fame, an honor reserved for "artists whohave achieved worldwide recognition for their work, transcending musical genres and languages." Giving back to his homeland, in 2015, he founded the initiative "Tras La Perla" to promote sustainable development in the city of Santa Marta and its region influenced by the Sierra Nevada and Ciénaga Grande. In 2016, he also created the Rio Grande Music School with the purpose of offering new artistic experiences by creating a dialogue around Colombian music and culture, new local musical proposals, and world music. As an entrepreneur, he is also the owner of the Cumbia House venue in Colombia, where music, food, and cultural events come together in one place. As his dearest slogan suggests, "united in diversity," Carlos Vives has left a lasting mark on entire generations through music and the promotion of Colombian culture.
