Laughing Tree Theatre brings you a stripped back, abridged version of Christopher Marlowe’s enduring tale of devilry, sin and lust for power.
Doctor Faustus is a brilliant, arrogant scholar, whose thirst for knowledge and influence leads him to summon the demon Mephistopheles, demanding from him power and dominion over the occult arts. Mephistopheles agrees, but the price is Faustus’ own soul, which will be taken in payment by the Devil after twenty-four years.
Faustus is granted his wish to be the greatest magician in the world – but as the deadline for relinquishing his soul draws ever closer, he begins to doubt the wisdom of his actions…
Marlowe’s beautiful language and dark humour are brought to life in this debut production from Laughing Tree Theatre, a new theatre company based in Stamford.
The production will take place in the open air, so audiences are encouraged to bring blankets and dress for the weather; performances will continue in the event of rain.
Please bring your own chairs. Running time will be approximately an hour and a half, and there will be a short interval.
