Motion Pictures No. 05: A curious evening for film, jazz-led music, and conversation

Mon Aug 31, 2026 7:30 PM - 11:00 PM Commune — Listening Bar, 30002

Motion Pictures is an intimate gathering of film, music, and conversation—where guests are the cast. We practice presence rather than performance. Two classic films play softly in the background as jazz-led textures warm the room. We make introductions, then let the night unfold into unhurried conversation and lavish mischief.

No. 05 returns at Commune, a listening bar in Avondale Estates.

The room speaks. The film plays. The music sets the stage.

From the moment you step through the curtain, the room begins to soften. You are welcomed at the entry and invited to sit wherever feels right—often beside someone new.

On arrival, you will receive a small card in an envelope. It is a Permission Slip. Entirely optional, it is yours to keep close, to share, or to use as a gentle prompt when you want it: an affirmation, a small act of courage, a question that opens a new thread.

November Rose curates an arc that’s jazz-led and richly textured, drifting through ambient jazz, samba, and dance-forward jazz house: deep basslines, silky chords, reverbed sax and muted trumpets, ethereal vocals, and hypnotic drum rhythms. As the film plays softly in the background, the music does the work of temperature and pacing. We design the listening with intention—tone, warmth, and volume—so the room can move naturally from arrival to ease to mischief.

Lavish Mischief designs leisure as a discipline

Lavish Mischief is a hospitality practice founded by Roosevelt “Rose” Daniel. We design gatherings—and the sound, objects, and sensory rituals that give them temperature. The result is a room guests can settle into, feel culture in real time, and meet one another with ease. We believe leisure is a discipline: time treated with intention. Elegance, to us, is care made visible.
