Fabric Collage: Freeform Flowers in a Vase with Libby Mortensen

Libby is well known for her needle felted creatures but she is also an accomplished fabric collage artist and teacher. Join her to make a fun freeform fabric collage project inspired by impressionist paintings of flowers in a vase.

In this class you will create a unique collage while learning the fusible fabric collage technique, which allows for rearranging your elements until you are happy with your layout, before fusing with a final pressing with an iron. You’ll be able to choose from a large selection of prepared fabrics and cut out pieces to create a table, vase, stems and flowers, in your choice of style and colors.

Composition and design tips will be discussed and your final 8″ x 10″ piece will be mounted onto painter’s stretcher bars, ready to be taken home and proudly displayed.

There is a $30 materials fee payable directly to Libby on the day of the workshop. Materials fee includes the following supplies:

• Choice of 11" x 13" fabric backgrounds and pre-cut fusible fleece batting
• Selection of fabrics with a fusible backing applied to choose from for use as tables, vases, flowers and leaves 
• 8" x 10" stretcher bars for attaching finished piece
• Instruction sheet for future reference

Students Supply List: students should bring 2 pairs of sharp scissors: one large pair and a small pair for detailed cutting.
