Sun Feb 11, 2024 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Terrace Theater, Charleston 29412

The League of Women Voters of the Charleston Area and the Bertelsmann Foundation will co-host a local screening of "I, Too", a documentary from the mind of Carol Anderson, on Sunday, February 11 from 2- 4pm at The Terrace Theater. The screening will be followed by Q&A with Dr. Anderson in conversation with Dr. Felice Knight, Director of Education at the International African American Museum.  Refreshments will be provided.

This hour-long documentary was co-produced with the Bertelsmann Foundation and Humanity in Action, with generous support from the Donner Foundation. The film premiered in September, 2022 at the Carter Center in Atlanta.

HumanityinAction.org notes that in I, Too, "We embark on a journey to shine a light on stories that reveal how we reached this inflection point in American history, as we strive to narrow the gap between who we say we are as a nation ... and who we actually are." The film showcases painful and uncomfortable chapters in American history - including untold stories of racial violence in the Carolinas - while challenging us to use our power and participation to fight for a better future.

Dr. Carol Anderson is the Robert W. Woodruff Professor of African American Studies at Emory University. She is the author of White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of our Racial Divide, a New York Times bestseller; Eyes Off the Prize: The United Nations and the African American Struggle for Human Rights, 1944-1955; and One Person, No Vote: How Voter Suppression is Destroying our Democracy, which was long-listed for the National Book Award. Her latest book is The Second: Race and Guns in a Fatally Unequal America (2021).  For more on her background, see professorcarolanderson.org.
