LEAH DLA Hub Winter Welcome

We’re excited to welcome our first cohort of doctoral students to LEAH DLA Hub! This in-person Winter Welcome event is an engaging and informative day designed to bring students from our 12 Hub Higher Education Institutions together and prepare you for the year ahead.

This is a great opportunity to meet fellow students and the LEAH DLA Hub team, learn more about how you can engage with the LEAH community, and explore useful tools for your development.

We’ll introduce our training and cohort development programme, walk you through Development Needs Analysis, explain the student-led activity and networking funding scheme, and the student representative scheme.

Tea, coffee, refreshments, and lunch will be provided, and the event will end with a drinks reception.

We look forward to welcoming you!

All LEAH DLA Hub students are expected to attend this event. Students based at University of Cambridge, University of Hertfordshire, University of East Anglia, and University of Essex can claim travel expenses for their train/coach journey to and from London.

10:30 – 12:30 The researcher you hope to become — a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshop: Explore the researcher you hope to become through an interactive LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshop. Reflect on your motivations and strengths, get to know fellow Hub students, and discover how you could learn from one another.

12:30 – 13:30 Lunch

13:30 – 13:50 Presentation on LEAH DLA Hub Training and Development Programme and the Development Needs Analysis (DNA)*

13:50 – 14:50 Interactive workshop: Working with your supervisors: Strategies for effective communication with your supervisory team

14:50 – 15:30 Community building activity

15:30 – 16:30 Drinks reception

Detailed information for the LEGO Serious Play and Interactive workshop will be available closer to the event day.

Recording Policy

The two presentations (marked by * in the programme) will be recorded and the recording will be made available to all LEAH DLA Hub students. Due to their interactive nature, other parts of the Winter Welcome event won’t be recorded, but we will make all relevant resources available to all LEAH DLA Hub students afterwards.

Expected Experience

The two presentations will be in lecture style and there are opportunities to ask questions, with the option to send your questions through the online platform Slido anonymously.

The LEGO Serious play and the workshop will be interactive. We invite everyone to participate in the activities, but you can always step away from the session if you need to. We provide a quiet room near the event venue for anyone who needs it.
