This lecture anticipates an exhibition showcasing the art of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant that will open at Tate Britain in November. Key to the literary and artistic circle celebrated as the Bloomsbury Group, the two artists were inspired by the London post-Impressionist exhibitions organised by their close friend Roger Fry, and were in the vanguard of British responses to Cubism and other modernist European movements. Their creative partnership lasted throughout their artistic lives, centring on Charleston, the Sussex house they shared. Charleston became a focus for their commitment to fresh approaches, experimentation and creating beauty in all areas of life through art and design.
Tickets: £8.50.
