Basic Design Workshop
The workshop will be held at Leeds Arts University's Vernon Street building in the city centre. Attendees should please meet in the building's reception from 10:45am.
As part of the upcoming Blenheim Walk Gallery exhibition 'The Art Schools of Yorkshire' and Leeds Arts University's 180-year anniversary celebrations, the Library will be holding a Basic Design Workshop in collaboration with Lecturers from the Foundation Diploma course.
Basic Design was the historical precursor to today’s Art Foundation diplomas. Many of its ideas were pioneered at Leeds Arts University (then Leeds College of Art), in the same studios where students are taught today and this development represented a radical moment of change in British art education.
At this workshop, taking place in the very same historic studios, Aoife Larkin (Collections Librarian) will share some of the history and philosophy of Basic Design using Leeds Arts University’s Archive and then Susanna Moore (Foundation Pathway Leader for Fashion and Textiles) and Suzi Tibbetts (Foundation Pathway Leader for 3D Design) will guide you through a playful and practical workshop exploring Basic Design’s fundamental principles of point, line and plane to produce your own moving image.
This workshop is free but please ensure you will be able to attend if you book a place. Booking without attending will exclude others from the opportunity to participate.
