Leeds Children's Hospital, LS1 3EX
Description
Leeds Children's Hospital - part of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust - is holding an open day recruitment event for nurses on Friday 7 March to showcase the opportunities we have to work as a Registered Nurse within Leeds Children’s Hospital, contributing to caring for patients in a wide range of specialities.
We are looking for band 5 registered children's nurses, soon-to-qualify children's nurses and we welcome interest from qualified adult nurses wishing to pursue a career in children's nursing.
What we're offering
Leeds Children’s Hospital is one of the UK's largest children’s hospitals with state-of-the-art treatments and facilities. We provide one of the most comprehensive ranges of specialist children's services in the country.
We are excited to share two opportunities to join the team in 2025, either:
- an allocated choice in general medicine, surgery or critical care nursing
or
- our 18-month rotation programme
The rotation programme is a development post designed to provide a wide range of clinical skills and competencies to give you a fantastic transition into children’s nursing, led by your passion and interest in a number of specialities.
Details of the programme will be available on the day. We currently offer:
- A general rotation programme through three chosen specialities throughout Leeds Children’s Hospital
- An Intensive Care rotation programme which includes Paediatric Critical Care, Neonatal Intensive Care and High Dependency Care
Both rotation programmes, offer structured development and the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised programme of study in high dependency care in either Paediatrics or Neonatal Nursing, depending on the chosen speciality at the end of the rotation.
Our registered nursing posts will include the following specialities:
- Medicine
- Surgery
- Paediatric Critical Care
- Neonatal Intensive Care
- Cardiology
- Liver/Renal
- Neurosciences
- Oncology and Haematology
Newly registered nurses will be supported during their first 12 months with our comprehensive Preceptorship programme. This preceptorship pathway will consist of professional development study days throughout your first year, aiming to consolidate clinical and theoretical competencies to equip you with the skills to step into your future career pathway.
Leeds Children’s Hospital offers support to those wishing to return to children’s nursing by offering a supportive programme for returners that have left the register and are eligible for the Return to Practice course or wish to return to secondary/tertiary care after having time away.
What to expect
At our open day you can expect to meet representatives from all advertised specialities and find out what it is like to work in each area.
There will be guided tours of Leeds Children's Hospital including a look inside some of our most specialist areas and cutting edge facilities. Tours will depart from Clarendon Wing Reception throughout the day. Sign up for a guided tour when you arrive.
Members of our Nursing Education Team will be on hand to talk you through the different routes into a career in children's nursing and how we can support you as you develop your career at Leeds Children's Hospital.
If you're applying for a role at Leeds Children's Hospital there will also be an opportunity to take part in an interview on the day. Adverts will be shared on NHS jobs in January. You will need to apply to this prior to the career event, in order to interview on the day.
