Architectural Tour of the University of Leeds campus - content tailored to visually impaired audience

Join us for a walking, audio-described tour exploring the design and history of a selection of the University's architectural gems dating from the 18th Century to the present day.

The University of Leeds is blessed with a remarkable campus. Despite being within a short walk of Leeds' commercial and shopping hub, it is an extensive, varied and largely road-free site full of characterful buildings and welcoming landscaping. It is our main centre of learning and research, a residential district for many of our students and the place of work for thousands of members of staff.

Over the years our campus has evolved and grown significantly. The University's students numbered around 200 when we were granted a royal charter in 1904; today it supports the education of over 35,000 students and houses facilities for world-leading research across many fields. Several distinct expansions over the years have enriched the campus with a wide variety of architecture.

The tour will take us along a route through this area of campus starting at the landmark Parkinson Building on Woodhouse Lane. It will include a mix of internal and external spaces and will offer generally level access (with lifts available at level changes). We expect it to take around 2 hours, finishing amongst the Brutalist buildings in the centre of campus.

This tour is being developed from the architectural tour that will be delivered on 11th September, supplemented with audio description and, where available, tactile drawings. It covers most of the same buildings and areas of campus.
