Join us this August for a fun, creative four-week Summer Art School designed for anyone who wants to explore their artistic side. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to build on existing skills, this course offers a relaxed and supportive environment to experiment with a variety of materials and techniques.

Throughout the course, you'll develop confidence, discover new ways of making art, and have the opportunity to learn something new while perhaps finding a hobby you'll enjoy for years to come.


Your tutor, Jude Allen, is an Illustrator and community arts educator working under the name Splodgeblossom Illustration.

She loves to create colourful whimsical illustrations and playful sessions and workshops that encourage people to let go of perfection, experiment and have fun,

What You'll Learn

Week 1 (4th August) – Mark Making & Landscapes
Experiment with a range of dry media including pencil, ink, and oil pastel to create expressive landscape studies. Discover how different marks, textures, and techniques can bring your drawings to life.

Week 2 (11th August) – Abstract Painting & Colour Theory
Explore acrylic painting through abstract art while learning the fundamentals of colour theory. Experiment with colour mixing, harmony, contrast, and composition to create vibrant, personal artworks.

Week 3 (18th August)  – Characterful Composition
Create engaging compositions using simple shapes inspired by plants, animals, architecture, and everyday objects. Learn key composition techniques that help guide the viewer's eye and bring your artwork together.

Week 4 (25th August) – Guerrilla Printmaking
Discover sustainable and accessible printmaking using everyday materials such as tin foil, cardboard, orange netting, and other household textures. Experiment with creative printing methods to produce unique and surprising results.

Who is this course for?

This course is primarily aimed at adults and is suitable for all experience levels, from complete beginners to those looking to expand their creative practice. Young people aged 12 and over are also welcome to attend, provided they are comfortable working in an adult learning environment. All minors must be accompanied by an adult, accompanying adults do not need to purchase a tickets unless they would like to join in the workshop. 

Whether you're trying art for the first time, returning to a creative hobby, or simply looking to learn new techniques, you'll be encouraged to experiment, explore, and enjoy the creative process.

Come along, meet like-minded people, learn new skills, and spend four inspiring weeks making art in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
