Farah's Farm - Tree Planting Activity

Tree Planting Morning

We will be spending a few meaningful hours volunteering on a 22 acre farm located just outside the village of Gretton, in North Northamptonshire.

What to Bring

Essential:

  • Wellies or sturdy hiking boots
  • Warm layers - The site is exposed and can feel cooler than expected. Even hijabis may need an extra hat.
  • Waterproof clothing, even if rain isn’t forecast
  • Work or gardening gloves

Optional:

  • A hot drink in a flask
  • Snacks
  • Your own small spade or trowel (tools will also be provided)

What to Expect

We will park at Gretton Village Hall. Once there you will be driven to the farm and we’ll spend approximately 3 hours planting.

On the day, we’ll be planting trees including figs, goumi berries, bladder nuts, blue sausage fruit and American pawpaw. The produce from these will be donated to local food banks.

The planted bushes will provide long term benefits for local wildlife, offering food and shelter for birds, insects, and small mammals such as hedgehogs. This planting plays an important role in increasing biodiversity and strengthening the local ecosystem.

Expect to feel grounded and rejuvenated after a morning of connecting with the Earth and working together outdoors 💚

Please Note
The site is beautiful but not well developed. There are no bathroom facilities available on site.

The Aim of the Farm

The farm’s long-term vision is to become an area of sustainable food production, a rich space for biodiversity, and a community hub.

The first major project is the creation of a community orchard, offering opportunities to learn and share knowledge around tree planting, care, harvesting, and using the produce.

The farm hopes to work with schools in the most deprived areas of Corby and Uppingham, giving children access to green space, fresh fruit, and outdoor learning. Once the trees are fully productive, harvested produce will be shared with local food banks and food redistribution charities.
