No sewing experience necessary!
This two-hour workshop will teach you how to give new life to your clothes, saving them from landfill and saving you money too! This eco- sustainable workshop is all about using what you have to hand.
Part one is all about mending. Using hand sewing techniques, Vanessa will show participants how to mend holes and rips, and patch your clothes in a sustainable way. We will learn about darning, weaving, how to use a darning mushroom and more.
In the second part of our workshop, we will be learning how to do simple alterations, again using hand sewing techniques so there's no need for a machine. We will look at how to take up a pair of trousers or dress and how to take in the waist of an item, as well as tips on other alteration skills.
Participants should bring an item of clothing that they want to mend (you can bring more than one). Some examples: a favourite pair of wool socks, trousers with holes in them. You can also bring an item for altering to work on during the workshop.
The workshop is designed to work by "learn by doing", so you will go home with mended and altered items, as well as lots of new skills and confidence to carry you forward and pass on to your community of friends and family.
