An Evening of Words, Sound and Memory.
Join us at Levenshulme Old Library for an evening celebrating stories, sound and place - all rooted right here in Levenshulme.
The event brings together three of our recent creative projects: live readings from You Are Here: Five Stories About Parks in Levenshulme, the launch of issue two of Lost Levenshulme, and a special performance of Secret Lake Stories by musician and sound-artist Emily Zurowski.
You Are Here features new fiction by Valerie O’Riordan, Verity Platt, Hette Phillips, Dipika Mummery and Marie Crook: five original short stories set across Levenshulme’s parks and green spaces, each transforming the familiar landscapes of Cringle Park, Nutsford Vale, Chapel Street Park, Highfield Country Park and the Fallowfield Loop into places of mystery, memory and imagination.
Lost Levenshulme - the new issue of our regular heritage publication Lost Levenshulme continues that journey through the neighbourhood’s hidden histories and everyday myths, with the latest issue mapping Levenshulme’s hidden waterways, exploring Errwood Road-set film noir classic Hell is a City, among other glimpses of local lore and landscape.
Secret Lake Stories - to close the evening, Emily Zurowski’s Secret Lake Stories offers an evocative sound piece inspired by Levenshulme’s Secret Lake - part oral history, part dreamscape - created using voices, field recordings and fragments of memory.
Gather for a chilly, late-autumn night of storytelling, sound and local creativity, celebrating the people and places that make Levenshulme unlike anywhere else.
Tickets are pay-what-you-can - we suggest £5 to cover costs and support future creative projects at Levenshulme Old Library but we want everyone to feel welcome, whatever their circumstances.
