The Body is a Doorway: Celebrating the Living Body through the Drawn Line. A Life Drawing Masterclass with Ali Hodgson

This Valentine's day, we invite you to a very special life drawing masterclass with Ali Hodgson.

A graduate of the Royal College of Art (London) and modern day monk, Ali uses the power of art to educate, regenerate and heal.

Ali was the Isle of Man's 2023/24 UNESCO Biosphere Artist in Residence and Jumping Mouse, a graphic novella about her own journey through tragedy, illness and healing received international critical acclaim. 

Ali has worked, taught and exhibited internationally.

She is adept at going beneath the surface in her own art practice, and in helping others to do the same.  

In this life drawing masterclass, the body is a doorway.

We will be reaching for embodied presence rather than perfection, connection rather than technique. 

In doing so, we will be celebrating the living body as a vehicle for experiencing the challenges and joys of life, deepening our connections to it, and exploring ways to express that connection in our own artwork.

Expect unique exercises that will challenge your drawing capacities and perceptions of the living form, explore embodiment and our capacity to enter the present moment through art.

There may be some gentle movement and perception exercises, as well as plenty of drawing exercises to challenge and expand our skills. 

We will be expanding on our figurative expression of the body: rather than capturing a body we will be meeting it, through contour, movement, breath, narrative and reverent observation.
