This session will focus on quality of line and the work of Austrian Expressionist Artists, Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt.

Egon Schiele

Gustav Klimt
Schiele and Klimt employed line in an emotionally-charged manner, lending their portraits and life studies a unique tension and energy.

Schiele's drawings were frequently emphasised by the sparing but expressive use of earthy tones with acid flashes and a frank and unapologetic composition.

Gustav Klimt
Klimt is notorious for his female-based work, depicting the essence and characteristics of his female sitters in an array of paintings and quick sketches. The artist held an immense fascination for the curves and textures of female bodies; depicting their natural flow and showcasing their pure and graceful form.
Helen Fox will lead the class in an exploration of the two Austrian's work and methods.
We will work from a life model in mixed media, using line in an expressive and dynamic manner, aiming to communicate form and provoke emotion.
If you have any coloured pencils and watercolours please bring them with you to incorporate into the mixed media.

This class will be suitable for all levels of ability, but will especially appeal to those of us who want to go further with our life drawing practice.
