Lightning Society and Andrei Matorin invite you to an intimate rooftop concert. Now more than ever we believe that nurturing spaces, to gather and be inspired by the culture and the artists in our community, is essential for our collective well-being. Let’s triumphantly come together and celebrate life through musical expression while supporting the artists that have contributed to the creation of this city we love so dearly.

The evening will include performances by world-class artists curated by Andrei Matorin as well as an opportunity to genuinely connect with and learn from them by asking questions about their personal and creative processes.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Julia Patinella

Julia Patinella is a multilingual singer and songwriter currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. After years of immersion as a Flamenco singer in southern Spain, as well as a life-long dedication to the oral traditions of her ancestor's native Sicily, Julia has developed several original musical projects in Spanish, Italian, Sicilian and English, that draw from her roots, her experience as a first-generation American female, and urgent socio-political themes. In her performances, she brings forth an expansive repertoire steeped in history and folk traditions, and a rich, guttural voice that carries the raw emotions of protest, the longing for freedom, and the uncompromising commitment to sing every note with soul.

Nick Demeris

Nick Demeris is a human instrument; stewarding sonic rituals that re-member ourselves, each other, and the Earth to which we belong. Whether singing with Humpback whales in Canada, making beats in the jails of the South Bronx, rewriting Maoist propaganda in China, or turning orchestras into choirs at Carnegie Hall, he is a vocal music machine bringing laughter, joy, and music everywhere he roams. Having performed, taught, and composed in over twenty countries, Nick’s shows are a melange of original music, improvisation, audience interaction, and lineage songs from around the world.

Curated by Andrei Matorin:

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, violinist, composer, and producer Andrei Matorin began performing professionally at the age of 15 and has since had the honor of being featured as a soloist at such prestigious institutions as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and MoMA. He’s played for such dignitaries as Oprah, Billy Joel, and General Colin Powell. As an event curator Matorin has worked with world-class talent over the last 7 years to produce inspiring experiences as diverse as intimate cacao ceremonies and sound baths to epic 28-hour marathon collaborations.
