NEXT TO NORMAL
Presented by Curtains & Cuisine at LionHeart Hall

July 31 — August 10, 2026

Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score, and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Next to Normal is a deeply moving contemporary musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt.

SYNOPSIS: Dad’s an architect. Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal. Their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens. On the surface, they seem like a typical American family… but their lives are anything but normal. For sixteen years, Diana has battled bipolar disorder, and her family has learned to navigate the heartbreak, confusion, humor, and resilience that come with it. Raw, riveting, and darkly funny, Next to Normal follows one family’s search for stability when the mind won’t cooperate. Through a powerful contemporary rock score, the musical shines a compassionate light on grief, treatment, memory, and the courage it takes to face the truth.

Praised by critics across the country (including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times) Next to Normal remains one of the most celebrated modern musicals of the 21st century.

NOTE: This production utilizes the PBS-edited version of the script, in which strong profanity has been replaced with softer alternatives for accessibility purposes.
