Join Lise Lorentzen for a fun online zoom rosemaling class for advanced beginners and beyond. This class is a continuation of Lise's study style series. This will be a great class for those that are interested in learning more about the Rococo style of Rosemaling and creating a lovely wooden ornament for years of enjoyment.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, Europe entered a period of greater prosperity and trade and this extended into Norway. It was at this time that the decorative art styles of the Baroque and Rococo with their turning acanthus leaves and flowing scrolls made their way into Norway. The decorated church interiors painted by urban guild painters gave inspiration to a community that was already well versed in the arts of wood carving, metal working, weaving and more. This was the inspiration for decorative painting that led to the many styles of Rosemaling that we know today.

Baroque was the heavier of the two style, and featured intense colors, religious narratives, and dramatic light dark contrast. Rococo, on the other hand featured a lightness and elegance that featured asymmetrical scrolls and flowers and featured a pastel palette often in soft pinks, blues, greens and gold. This class will focus on the Rococo style with soft blues and pinks. The inspiration for this class were of pieces painted by Norwegian Rosemaler Nils Ellingsgard (1928-2021) and his many Rococo inspired work as well as works from the 1700’s and other more current Rosemalers
