WE ARE SO SORRY BUT, UNFORTUNATELY, MR ESLER HAS HAD TO CANCEL. HE AND THE FESTIVAL SEND OUR APOLOGIES TO EVERYONE WHO SO KINDLY BOOKED TO COME SEE HIM SPEAK.
Gavin Esler, one of the country’s leading journalists, broadcasters and authors, was BBC Newsnight’s chief presenter from 2003 to 2014. He is the bestselling author of several works on the state of Britain as well as five novels.
In this conversation, reading and Q&A, Gavin will discuss his most recent work, Britain Is Better Than This: Why a Great Country is Failing Us. The book suggests we’re a wonderful country full of great people who trust each other as citizens and, from universities to music and the creative arts, we have so much to be proud of. So why are we failing when it comes to governance? We’ve had a series of failed leaders, Gavin suggests, because we have a failed system for producing
leaders.
Expect off-the-cuff wisdom, humour at the absurdities of what passes for our constitution, and more.
Gavin will be signing books purchased from the bookstall on the night only. The bookstall is managed by local independent booksellers, Kibworth Books.
This event is brought to you by the Literary Leicester Festival and the University of Leicester's Centre for New Writing.
