Description
Linking Principles of Polyvagal Theory to Support Practices with Young People
Young People can behave in responsive ways that often appear over the top which may be difficult to make sense of. The Polyvagal Theory provides professionals with a neurophysiological framework to consider the reasons why the young person might act in certain ways removing blame and reducing toxic shame.
This 3-hour workshop, delivered by PIP Solutions Training will provide participants with an understanding of Stephen Porges’ concept of The Polyvagal Theory. There will be a focus on the three organising principles: Neuroception, Hierarchy, Co-regulation, to understand what is driving the young person’s behaviour.
Participants will:
- Gain an understanding of The Polyvagal Theory
- Have an awareness of the Autonomic Nervous System
- Understand the feeling of safe as a biological process
Towards the end of the workshop, we will consider ways in which professionals can positively support young people to find nervous system safety through connection and social engagement.
