A Night of Fairouz

Fri May 15, 2026 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM First Church in Cambridge, 02138

Fairouz (born Nouhad Haddad) is a legendary Lebanese singer who is widely recognized as one of the finest vocalists of the Arab world. Rising to fame in the mid-20th century, she became a towering symbol of national unity and a beloved cultural icon across the Mediterranean. Her ethereal voice accompanies the daily ritual of millions, synonymous with the scent of coffee and the start of a new day.

With the artistic collaboration of her husband Assi Rahbani and his brother Mansour, Fairouz developed a unique sound that blended microtonal Arabic scales with novel arrangements, drawing upon the Western symphonic tradition and jazz. Fairouz and the Rahbani brothers created a massive repertoire of over 1,500 songs, in addition to theatrical and cinematic works that navigated the themes of love and loss, life in the Levant, and Lebanese and Arab identity. Later, Fairouz explored new styles in collaboration with her son Ziad, and other composers including Philemon Wehbe and Zaki Nassif. Fairouz remains a revered figure whose influence transcends generations and borders.

Please join us for a nostalgic concert in celebration of “Lebanon’s Ambassador to the Stars”, featuring local musicians in collaboration with the Souq El-Jum3a Collective. Concert profits will be donated to support medical relief efforts in the Levant via the International Committee of the Red Cross’ Middle East Fund and The Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Fund. For attendees who have the means to make a larger pledge in support of these humanitarian groups, we ask that you consider purchasing your tickets via the “Donor’s Circle” section.
