Film Screening and Seed Exchange

The Local Futures non-profit organisation is the pioneer of the worldwide localization movement and promotes ‘going local’ as a key strategy for restoring ecological, social and spiritual well-being. Sharing a powerful vision of big picture activism starting from the grassroots, we're helping 'join the dots' between the multitudes of issues; from salmon farming to forest destruction, to plastic pollution.

In the evening of June 26 we will be screening three inspiring films/ videos in celebration of World Localization Day at the Patagonia Burleigh Heads store at the Gold Coast in Australia. We're also encouraging people to bring along their (self-collected, non-hybrid) local seeds to share and exchange. Afterwards there will be time for Q&A with Pacha Light (Patagonia surfer and activist) and Henry Coleman (Local Futures project coordinator, speaker, writer and avid birdwatcher). Free entry and non-alcoholic drinks are provided.

'The Caravan of Hope' by Yani Light
This trailer offers a heartwarming glimpse into the localization movement of Japan, chronicling a road-tripping adventure hosted by the Sloth Club and featuring Patagonia surfer, Pacha Light.

'Closer to Home - Voices of Hope in a Time of Crisis'  by Local Futures and Cyrus Sutton
This 35-minute film brings together an extraordinary array of thinkers, writers, and activists from every continent to make a simple but revolutionary argument: by reducing the scale of the economy, we can not only stop the rush towards social and ecological breakdown, but restore damaged ecosystems and increase our own personal well-being.

'Farm Boys - the Road Wombats' episode 2 by Patagonia Australia
In the second episode of Farm Boys: The Road Wombats, Heath and Addy venture north on Dunghutti and Gumbaynggirr Country to catch up with a couple of old surfing mates, doing their thing off grid. Jake Vincent started his garden as a way to save money and surf more often, while just up the road Ellis Ericson is hand shaping surfboards in his back shed while keeping a light footprint.
