An Outdoor on Farm Workshop Exploring Dragonflies, Wetlands & Biodiversity
Join us at Lochhill Agroecological Farm for a free, hands-on exploration of dragonflies and damselflies – some of the most ancient and fascinating insects still flying today.
Led by Malcolm from the South West Scotland Environmental Information Centre (SWSEIC), this workshop offers a unique opportunity to:
🪰 Observe dragonflies in their natural wetland habitats
🔍 Learn to identify key species found on and around the farm
💧 Understand the links between dragonflies, ecosystem health, and freshwater biodiversity
🌍 Explore how climate change and land management affect dragonfly populations
📊 Discover how biological recording helps us protect and monitor Scotland’s wildlife
This is an outdoor, family-friendly event suitable for nature enthusiasts, amateur recorders, or anyone curious about insects and the environment.
Activities include:
– Field walks to observe dragonflies and other wetland wildlife
– Species ID tips and tools
– Pond-edge surveying techniques
What to bring:
– Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear
– Sunhat / waterproofs depending on the weather
Join us to explore the hidden lives of these shimmering predators – and find out what they reveal about our landscape
Lochhilll Agroecological Farm is a new community farm project outside Crossmichael. We are developing different enterprises to grow rural resilience, and delivering a education programme to learn more about farming and ecosystems.
