Description: Symbolism is a powerful tool in art history and literary history. In this course, we will explore symbols in art and in literature. What is a symbol? What do we derive from specific motifs, personally and culturally, and why? How can symbolism be incorporated into our writing to give it layers of meaning? We will look at art and unravel both consciously placed symbols and personally interpreted ones, using them as fuel to generate new poems.
