Don't Let It Slide - Islamophobia Awareness Month Conference 2026 #THIAM26

Tower Hamlets Islamophobia Awareness Month Conference 2026

Theme: Don't Let It Slide

Join us for Tower Hamlets' annual Islamophobia Awareness Month Conference. This year's theme, "Don't Let It Slide", is calling to action, courage, and everyday responsibility. Acknowledging discrimination and working to tackle it, rather than allowing it to be normalised.

The event will bring together a range of speakers and community voices to explore the impact of Islamophobia, share lived experiences, and highlight positive action being taken to promote inclusion, understanding, and community cohesion.

Key note speakers will include:

Deputy Mayor Cllr Maium Talukdar - Cabinet Lead for Faith: Standing Firm Against Islamophobia

Dr Rizwana Hamid - Veteran Journalist, Filmmaker, and the Director of the Centre for Media Monitoring, Muslim Council of Britain: Document Islamophobia; Systemic Racism, Media Biases, and the Social Cost of Anti-Muslim Narrative Frameworks

Kevin Courtney - Former schoolteacher, Former Joint Secretary of the National Education Union, and current chair of the Together Alliance: Mobilising Against Islamophobia and Hate: A Call for Action.

Through presentations, discussion, and performances, attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on how we can all play a role in creating a borough where everyone feels like they belong.

Whether you are a resident, professional, volunteer, community activist, or simply interested in learning more, this event offers an opportunity to listen, reflect, and engage in meaningful discussion.

Refreshments: Free refreshments and lunch will be provided.
