Join Us for an Unforgettable Walking Tour of Canterbury!

Following the success of our walks in London and Westminster Abbey, the London Branch of Bristol Alumni invites you to a walking tour of the historic city and the Cathedral of Canterbury.

Event Schedule:

  • Date: Saturday, 12 October 2024
  • Meeting Point: Buttermarket, CT1 2HA (just outside the main entrance to the Cathedral) at 11:00 AM for an 11:15 AM prompt start.

Morning Tour:

  • City Walk: Enjoy a 90-minute guided walk around the historic city of Canterbury. Built by the Romans, Canterbury has been a centre for pilgrimages since the Middle Ages and is full of cobbled streets and timber-framed houses. Our tour will be led by a qualified guide who is a Bristol Alumni.

Lunch:

  • Light Lunch: Relish a delightful lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon Tour:

  • Cathedral Tour: From 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM, experience an in-depth guided tour of the breathtaking Canterbury Cathedral, founded in 597 AD and the headquarters of the Church of England.

Tea and Scones:

  • Tea Time: Indulge in traditional tea and scones at the Cathedral Lodge Café.

Cost:

  • Total Cost: £37.50 per person (includes lunch and tea with scones). Please note there will be a limit on numbers.

Optional Evening and Accommodation:

  • Alumni Dinner: For those who wish to stay on, join us for an Alumni Dinner at 7:00 PM at a local restaurant. The cost is approximately £50 per head (drinks extra). Please tick the box on the booking form if interested.
  • Accommodation: Make a weekend of the event with reserved accommodation at The Cathedral Lodge Hotel. Rooms with a view of the Cathedral are £160 per night or £100 per night without the view, breakfast included. Please tick the box on the booking form if interested, and we will send details on how to book your hotel room. Information on other activities in Canterbury on Sunday will also be provided. Alternatively, other hotels may be booked by yourselves.

Travel Information:

  • By Car: Parking can be challenging, but we will send details of car parks after you book.
  • By Train:
    • Canterbury West station is about a 10-minute walk from the Cathedral. There is an hourly service to Canterbury West from St Pancras or Stratford International on the Javelin train.
    • Slower trains are available from Victoria to Canterbury East.
  • By Coach: National Express services are available from Victoria.
